The Embedded Librarian Summary was created for LI861: Current Issues in Information Transfer. I was an embedded librarian for a class of nursing students at the University of Central Missouri and created this document to reflect on the experience. Each nursing class had two embedded librarians who answered reference questions and provided guides and tutorials for the online class. I learned about some of the challenges of providing distance library service. Anticipating the needs of the nursing students was challenging; some of the students did not interact with the embedded librarians at all. In case some students were not interested in contacting us individually, we provided guides on blackboard. The class was a unique application of library instruction and gave valuable hands-on experience working with, and planning how to assist, distance patrons. |
