Introduction

This website portfolio is part of the Capstone class (LI880) requirement for successful completion of Emporia

State University's School of Library and Information Management (SLIM) program.  It contains examples of coursework and evidence (artifacts) that reflect the outcomes and professional values I have met for an MLS.

Initially, I used the opportunity provided by various assignments to explore different aspects of the library profession.  My background was working in public and academic libraries with some cataloging experience.  In order to discover where my focus was I wanted to broaden my understanding of original cataloging, reference, and administration.

I have learned that library management holds the most appeal and allows me to utilize and hone my skills in order to help others in a public library environment.

About Me

I started my library career as a library Page; now called Student Assistants.  At the time I had no idea I would become a librarian.  A previous Library Manager convinced me to go for a Master's in Library Science.  From library Page, I progressed to a Library Assistant I and Library Technician before moving to Wichita, Kansas.  At Wichita State University I received the chance to be the Circulation Desk Manager and to start the SLIM program.

As the current Library Director of the Mulvane Public Library I have been able to put concepts I have learned into practice.  This also gives me a chance to give back by recruiting a new generation of librarians.
